MAY 8 1996 May 7, 1996 ,+F Air. Stuart Eveland Eveland Construction 209 Iyanough Road D Hyannis, MA 02601 Dear Mr. Eveland: Please find enclosed, a copy of my inspection report from the saw mill you are operating at the Hyannis Sand and Gravel property. I have researched the code and I feel that you fall into 527 CMR 17.00 which regulates saw mills and lumber yards. Most of your problems are housekeeping in nature and I have outlined the specific places in the code that you will be required to meet In regards to your kiln drier located in the truck trailer, you should refrain from using this device. Although set up as a hot air furnace, I feel that your chimney/venting system is insufficient This is an opinion only as chimney construction is under the jurisdiction of the Building Commissioner. In addition to the type of chimney, I am concerned that any sparks or brands from the burning wood might contact the blue tarp roofing material that you have on the buildings and subsequently ignite. In any case, the use of the furnace will require input from the Building Commissioner and I suggest very strongly that you consult him. We will also require that a permit be issued for burning of the wood in any kiln operation. I suggest that you address the fire extinguishers and the amount of combustible fuels (gasoline and diesel oil)that, you have on the property. The property is located in a ground protection area also and may require additional permits to store flammables. We will require that the flammables be stored in a separate shed, properly placarded with DOT signs and with an impervious, diked foundation designed to prevent spills into the water table. I am also concerned regarding the close proximity of your operation to the power lines located overhead. I will be contacting Commonwealth Electric in order to get an opinion regarding a fire problem in your mill and it's potential relationship to the electrical lines. I am most concurred about the life safety of our personnel and you and your staff. Page 2 These requirements are not to be construed.as-a" form of approval.
