Under no circumstances is any type of waste allowed to be put into any storm drains located in the Town of Barnstable. ' For latex/water-based paints: Since the property is not connected to town sewer, and it appears that paint-related cleanup is occurring more frequently than at a typical residence, it is not recommended that cleanup is done in a sink leading to the septic system. Rather, the more appropriate procedure for clean-up of painting equipment in this case would be to use 5-gallon buckets of full of water. Rinse the equipment in the buckets without releasing any of the waste. These same buckets would be used daily so that the paint sludge eventually settles in the bottom of the buckets. After the sludge has settled and the rinse water is no longer needed, the top water can be poured out onto the soil in the backyard. The sludge is then dried and put into the regular trash. Excess latex paint can be disposed of as regular trash, if dry. To dry small amounts, remove lid and let the paint dry in the can. For larger amounts, mix in kitty litter or pour one-inch layers of paint in a cardboard box lined with a plastic bag. Stir the paint occasionally to speed drying. Put completely dried paint in the trash. For alkyd/oil-based paints and stains: Dry, hardened oil-based paint can also be disposed of in the regular trash. However,DO NOT . intentionally leave oil-based paint open to dry out—the vapors are toxic and adversely affect air quality. All oil-based paint/stain/thinner waste and cleanup materials must be treated as hazardous waste. It is recommended that you take advantage of the Household Hazardous Waste Q:\Hazmat\2015-TL\fi1e notes and letters\181-183 Seabrook Rd 061215.doc collection events for any hazardous waste disposal needs. A brochure is included with this letter for your use. His name is Tom Holmes. Mr. Holmes has witnessed the homeowners at 181 Seabrook Road on a daily basis, coming home and dumping their paint into the basin in front of there home. There is paint all over the road also from them doing this. Mr. Holmes is not only upset that the paint is all over the road but they will clog the drain and it will affect the environment. He would like them spoken to right away and feels they should be responsible for the paint to be cleaned off of the road. p 117 10 0- Thank you, Susan Shanley Principal Division Assistant 9W a 1` Town of Barnstable 'z)Nl_l PDJ Highway Division 382 Falmouth Road ' Hyannis, MA 02601 0-(508)-790-6330 SQ ak F-(508)-790-6343 D Ro l I sL G >✓ •c,M cat ` rU low o 1'bi t 3 . ` y(Gth,9r Ctflv'd Ga o °"f`l M1c,C55 1 M.U1 Xt-- M. a ,vk. . 6/10/2015 Av I f Town of Barnstable oF'THE rpm Regulatory Services Richard V.
