McKean's letter of August 8 and my wife's conversation with you last week concerning the underground fuel tank at 25 South Street, Hyannis. As she explained to you, we have contracted with Canco to secure all the proper permits, install a new fuel tank in the basement, transfer the fuel from the old underground tank and then remove the underground tank. The new 275 gallon capacity tank has been installed in the basemerit-anci rued has been transferred from the old' tank:"" However, it seems the old underground tank holds - considerably more fuel than 275 gallons. Canco is trying to find a distributor to take the excess fuel from the underground tank. If no distributor is found, the fuel in the old tank will be transferred to the new tank as fuel is used up. Canco estimates that this transfer might continue until November. My understanding is that we have six months to remove the underground tank from the time it is abandoned. In as much as the underground tank is likely to remain in use until November, we will then have until May 1989 to remove the underground tank. Thank you for your help in this matter. Sincerely, Thomas A. Goddard cc: Canco Nancy Lepri, Hyannis Fire Department 417 `1 *7V 12 P tola 0 a f. _ ( , ) Q
