Melanson, Deputy Chief Hyannis Fire Department 95 High School Road Extension Hyannis, MA 02601 RE: Cape Crossroads Condominiums Doors Blocking Egress Regarding removal of the gates on the walk-way portion of the decks. I'm in agreement with this procedure. They only slam making noise during a wind storm anyway. People need access to units from the decks. However, T_ am`TRY concerned about removing the DOORS off of our private balcony. The windows and sliders to my Mothers bedroom and my bedroom will be wide open to un-welcomed visitors. If these doors are removed, that will mean that unit owners will be afraid to leave their sliders open at night when they go to bed for fear of someone entering. You also have to factor in Peeping Toms. The weather is starting to warm up and most of us like to leave window/sliders opened for fresh air at night or while out running errands during the weekend days. Now we will have to CLOSE all windows/sliders before-leaving! These doors also blocks the Winter wind and cold. The office has all duplicate condo keys if access is needed to anyone of the units. Removingour private balcon'doors entering or exitiri' the window or slider will not be an p Y g g Y more accessible than trying to go through our front doors or livingroom slider on the walk-way decks. With the door removal, will there by funds allotted to the Police Budget to provide extra police patrol throughout the day and night to secure our safety? Please take this matter into serious consideration. We need our privacy and security. Thank you. Si cerely, Alva A. To the Board members, At your direction, Ms. Greene called me today to see if there were any outstanding issues left at the complex. Specifically, we discussed the issues surrounding the gates and doors installed in various locations on the decks of all buildings. As you are aware the gates and doors have been ordered to be removed by November 12, 2002 by the Town of Barnstable Building.Commissioner Tom Perry in a order dated October 4, 2002. The removal of the gates and doors is still not complete. There is no reason to meet with the Board until they have fulfilled the requirements of the building Commissioners order. If the Board feels that they are somehow exempt from this order they should immediately contact the Building Commissioner. An additional item that we discussed was the increase in parking at the complex and out on the Bearses Wdy Road side of the complex. While not an immediate problem presently this situation must be monitored to ensure that fire apparatus and rescue vehicles can still properly access the site. You have stated that the practice of parking along Bearses Way is accepted by the Police. Be advised that there are plans to widen Bearses Way.and.thls area may no longer be acceptable for parking. I suggest the Board start to consider.alternative parking arrangements before the roadwork begins and this becomes another safety issue for the complex. Since , Dean L.
