The federal agency, with assistance from Barnstable police, went to three locations in Hyannis checking for illegal immigrants starting at about 6:50 a.m., according to Barnstable police. The agency arrested Yuliya Gonzalez, 20, at 1037 Pitcher's Way, Barnstable police Chief Paul MacDonald said. Officers arrested Adilet Kadyrov, 20, Nursultan Kaiypov, 20, and Elbek Kalbekov, 24, at 35 Gosnold Street, he said. The agents went to another address on Brookshire Road but did not arrest anyone there, he said, adding that ICE also went to locations in Yarmouth. The people detained in Hyannis were booked at the Barnstable police station and then taken to Boston for arraignment, MacDonald said. The exact nature of the warrants is unclear but these kinds of warrants are usually for some type of deportation issue, he said. It is doubtful that there is any direct connection to the bombings at the Boston Marathon a month ago but since the bombings ICE and other agencies have increased their enforcement actions, MacDonald said. "Everybody is stepping up their game," he said. The two brothers accused of setting off a pair of explosions at the marathon last month—Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev—once lived in Kyrgyzstan, the home country of the three people arrested at 35 Gosnold Street, according to a Kenyan man who said he was their roommate. Police arrived at the Gosnold Street home sometime between 6:30 and 7 a.m.,the man said during a brief interview at the house. He declined to give his name. About eight officers from ICE and Barnstable police were at the door when he answered, the man said. "It was scary when you see the guns and the Tasers," he said. The three men who the officers detained are from Kyrgyzstan and are all students, the man said, adding that he didn't know what college they attended. When officers asked his roommates if they knew why they were there, the men said it was because their student visas had expired, the man said. The man said he has his green card. The officers checked the house but didn't find anything illegal, he said, adding that he did not believe his roommates were involved in anything related to the Boston bombings. Nobody answered the door at 1037 Pitcher's Way,which had a nicely manicured lawn. and other plantings around a deck. On the property behind the home are two campers and a chicken coop as well as various landscaping equipment. A woman who works nearby said the home's owner is very nice and she never heard anything out-of-the-ordinary besides recent squawking from the chickens. 0 w http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130516/NEWS 11/130519771&tem... 5/16/2013 morning federal immigration raid I CapeCodOnline.com Page 2 of 2 An ICE official said he would check into the specifics of the agency's activity on the Cape. Officials said the home was last inspected in 1992 when it was converted from a single-family residence. Landlords are supposed to have their properties inspected every time there are new tenants, but Glascock said there's no record showing that the building's owner,Anna Belokurova, requested the inspections. Glascock said Belokurova owns two other rental properties, including a building on Reedsdale St.that was cited for having an illegal basement unit.City records showed Belokurova has received dozens of citations for improper trash disposal on Linden St. In lanuary 2012,a fire across the street at 84 Linden injured seven BU students, one of them critically. Increased inspections in the neighborhood found dozens of violations, but officials were unable to gain entry to the site of Sunday's fire. Starting next month,a new city ordinance will require Boston landlords to register all rental units with the city. Inspectors plan to examine each apartment at least once every five years, starting in 2014. Sweet A woman was killed and at least two firefighters were injured this morning in an Allston fire that sent nine other residents to the hospital, a fire official said. One firefighter fell through a second-story floor while another fell down the stairs, Boston Fire spokesman Steve MacDonald said. A total of six firefighters were treated and released from local hospitals. The fire, which started about 6:30 a.m. on Linden Street, fully engulfed the upper floors. One resident jumped from the upper floors while three others were taken down ladders. An BFD aerial tower was unable to reach the upper floors because of power lines, MacDonald said. "It got so bad that the chief ordered everyone out of the building," MacDonald said. "One resident told us someone was missing. We could not make entry. We knew there was a good possibility we would find someone inside." http://bostonherald.com/print/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/04/woman killed_firefigh... 5/1/2013 Woman killed, firefighters and occupants injured in raging Allston fire Page 2 of 3 Firefighters later found a woman's body in the attic. Her identity has not been released. As many as 19 people lived in the house, occupying the basement, two main floors and attic, the fire department reported said. At least six were Boston University students. BU spokesman Colin Riley said he it was unknown whether the dead woman was a BU student. Eunhee Park, who owns the house across the street, said there was a "loud" party going on well into the early hours this morning. "Every weekend," she said, "so loud." Park said she was awakened again just after 6:30 by arriving fire engines and saw the second floor engulfed in smoke and a man and woman on a thin sliver of roof outside the front second floor windows. "They looked scared. They were yelling `Help! Help!' They were just waiting for someone to help them." Park's daughter, Seon Park, said partygoers were milling up and down Linden Street all night before the fire struck. "As usual, it was loud," she said. "People were having fun on the street." Arson investigators went through the burned building today with 9 9 9 Y a dog sniffing for signs of accelerants but there was no immediate word about the cause of the fire. The Linden Street property is listed by the city as a two-family with nine bedrooms and two baths.
