We went over the street file and the information you provided. The Commissioner has made the determination that this is and always was zoned as a single family home. There was correspondence between a former owner and the then zoning officer in 1995 to remove the tenants and restore the home to a single family. The determination was made then that this was a single family home with at least one illegal apartment. .. The file reflects that there was an agreement for this work to be done. Evidently the former owner sold this property to you rather than do the work. This means you bought the problem. The good news is that there is a solution to the problem. The Amnesty Program. This program was put in place for people like yourself, who have multi-family homes in single family zones. By applying to the program you will probably be able to keep the apartment, subject to the rules that apply. Please feel free to call me and we can start the application process.
