Dear Members of the Barnstable Conservation Commission,
I have had an opportunity to review the petition for dock extension at 185 Ocean View Avenue and register a
strong opposition to it.
For thirty years our family has spent countless days at Riley's Beach, swimming and navigating the waters in the
area. Over that time, the contours of the beach have changed dramatically, as has the sharp drop off into the
water off the beach. Most importantly, the currents through this narrow aperture to the sea have become
stronger.
These natural changes in the area have combined to make access and egress through the cut more dangerous.
More dangerous to swimmers, sailors, fishermen, boaters and everyone else who attempts to use this congested
area. Constricting it further with a dock extension would serve to magnify these dangers.
Please deny this application for a pier extension. Thank you for kind attention.
