The work includes installation of a 2’ x 24’ sculpture base that will extend 1-2 feet above grade to support a 10- foot (+/-) tall sculpture commissioned by the owner (see attached photo of artist’s mock-up). Work: The work includes excavating a 30’(L) x 4’(W) x 5’(D) trench for construction of a reinforced concrete footing and wall (detail per approved plans) to support the sculpture and installation of a 15” diameter Weeping Willow. The sculpture base will be constructed using a backhoe or small excavator and the willow will be installed using a tree spade to limit disturbance. Backfill material will be stockpiled temporarily on the uphill side of the trench and any excess material will be removed immediately from the site. All surfaces will be returned to their original condition following installation of the sculpture. The sculpture will be delivered to the site by truck and erected with a mobile crane. Both vehicles will be mobilized from the existing driveway and any areas disturbed during erection will be repaired immediately. Schedule: We anticipate installation of the sculpture base will take approximately 5-7 days after which all materials and equipment will be removed and any areas disturbed during installation will be repaired immediately by re-sodding leaving no potential for erosion. When finished, the sculpture will be delivered to the site by truck and erected with a mobile crane. Both vehicles will be mobilized from the existing driveway and any areas disturbed during erection will be repaired immediately. Erosion Controls: A row of 12” compost filter tube will be installed as shown on the attached plan to ensure protection of adjacent wetlands. Erosion controls will remain in place until sculpture is installed, and all related repair work is complete Mitigation: The work will result in 48 sf of new impervious surface within the 0-50’ wetland buffer requiring an additional 192 sf (4:1 mitigation ratio). The change results in a revised total required project mitigation of 4,556 sf which is still far less than the 14,448 sf being provided. A copy of the approved and revised Mitigation Summary is attached. We anticipate the Project and the additional work described in this request will be complete by September 2023. An extension of the OOC was requested on March 15, 2023 and is currently pending.
