No increase in habitable space or inspections bedrooms is proposed. The system is designed based on the existing 5 bedrooms (3 in main dwelling, 2 in cottage). The following variances are requested under Barnstable Board of Health Regulations: permits Section 397-8E(1): e: Reduction in setback,proposed septic tanks to existing wells landscape architecture (locus, >100' to 50' & 56'• abutter, 100' to 82' & 83') f. Reduction in setback, proposed leaching facility to existing wells (locus and abutter's, 150' to 100') g: Reduction in setback, proposed distribution box to existing well (abutter's, 100' to 98') Due to site constraints to include the small size of the lot and the presence of wells (locus and the abutter to the south) setback variances are requested. The existing on- site well and the abutter's well is up-gradient to the proposed septic tanks and the leaching facility, as groundwater flow is in a northerly direction in this area(see attached map). The tanks are proposed at a minimum of 50' to the (locus)well, which is the state requirement. Under Title 5 15.226(2)(a)7, septic tanks "shall be watertight." Due to the groundwater flow in this area and the fact that the tanks are by requirement to be watertight,we feel that by granting these variances,the same degree of environmental protection can be attained without the need for strict adherence to the Town of Barnstable Regulations.
