The subject room has a bank of built-in cabinets with a laminate top, bar sink and an under the counter fridge as well as a full bath. The room as a separate entrance (a front door) and an interior door into a common hallway. The interior door had been removed and replaced with a latching door—no locking mechanism. The room was set up as guest room. The daughter is the current owner of the property and she resides in London,England. The house is rented to a single family. On this date the tenant advised that her sister is visiting and staying in the"guest" room. There were two cars in the drive way and one had RI plates. Kevin Shea (Director) and Beth Dillen (Program Coordinator), explained the amnesty program and its requirements. An appointment was scheduled to visit Edith's unit, which had been advertised as a studio with kitchenette. I visited the Aldrich property at 58 Chole Court in Barnstable Village, MA on October 13, 2004. 1 met with Edith, who is 85, and toured both the "unit" and the main residence. The unit, or room, is currently vacant, and I observed that there is no stove or cooktop of any kind,just a sink and a bathroom. Following the visit, I discussed the case with Kevin Shea, who agreed the property is not suitable for the amnesty program, and would be more appropriately characterized as a boarder or roommate arrangement. I plan to explain this to Edith on a follow-up visit on October 21, 2004, and am working with senior services and CORD to make arrangements for some volunteer visits and assistance with her hearing impairment.
