Fax: 508-862-4711 Town Engineer NOTICE of ROAD NAME CHANGE Subject: Renaming Hadaway Road Attucks Lane, Barnstable,,(Rd. # 2279) Date: August 16, 2004 Members of the Barnstable Town Council, Mr. Harold E. Tobey and Mr. Henry C. Farnham, have petitioned the Town Manager, John Klimm, for the renaming of Hadaway Road, Barnstable. At the request of the DPW and Engineering Division, a public hearing was held on June 9, 2004 at the council chambers of Barnstable Town Hall. Discussions included the changing of the original road name of Attucks Lane Extension and the renaming of this section of road to Hadaway Road. Mr. Tobey produced historic documentation of Crispus Attucks, the first casualty of the American Revolution at what became known as the Boston Massacre. In recognition of such a well known citizen, Mr. Tobey requested the road name be changed back to the original road name. Since there appeared to be no objection to this change, the decision was taken under advisement. Without any further objection, the Town Manager, John Klimm, ordered the road name be changed from Hadaway Road to Attucks Lane. In preparation of the renaming of Hadaway Road to Attucks Lane, because Attucks Lane already existed in another location, new building numbers must be reassigned for properties on the existing section of Attucks Lane for E-911 and mailing purposes. Immediately after the notices are mailed to the abutters with their newly assigned numbers, the order to change the name of Hadaway Road will be recorded at the Registry of Deeds. The recorded order for the road renaming will then be sent to the abutters of Hadaway Road along with the verification notice of their building number. The new road name change order must be recorded at the Registry of Deeds against the original plan road layout on file. Notices must be sent to all local utility companies including E-911. The Police and Fire Departments will be notified of the date the new road signs will be installed. The order will then be processed to the mapping divisions of the Town of Barnstable.
