The purpose of this letter is to inform you that under Rule 4 of the 1999 Massachusetts Electrical Code, 527 C.M.R. 12.00: that a serious hazard exists at the property located at 334 Main Street and 8 Barnstable Road, Hyannis, MA. The hazard is due to the interior of two Federal Pacific Panel boards being removed at some earlier period of time and replaced with interiors of other manufacturer's products. U & L requires the manufacturer's identification be visible-without disturbing interior parts and factory or field installed wiring(for reference see u.l. marking guide for panel boards u1.167). I have explained to the electrical contractor now engaged at installing a new electrical system in a portion of this building, that under Rule 3 of the Massachusetts Electrical Code, authorization of to connect t6 this existing violation will not be allowed. Under Rule 3, which states in part, "the installation shall not create a violation of this Code, nor shall it increase the magnitude of an existing violation. It is therefore necessary to have this condition corrected before the electrical work to the renovated areas will be allowed to be energized. Replacement of the two panel boards by an electrical contractor of you choice must be completed immediately. The scope of our project is as follows . 1 ) The replacement of the existing soft pine floor with a floor of hardwood such as oak or maple. 2) The installment of 5 fixed high tables along the west wall . These tables are to be constructed of oak and will be fastened to the wall at one end, and stand on an anchored newel post at the other end. Four of these tables are to be 5 feet on length, 2 foot wide, and to have a total height of 42 inches. The fifth table will be only3 feet len in gth. (See attached diagram for locations) 3 ) The installation of a partition rail . Made similar to the tables above, this unit will be 12 feet in length, 42 inches in height, 8 inches in width, with a 2 foot long turn at each end. Running parallel to the existing bar area, this structure will help to define the bar/lounge area from the dinning/dancing area. 4) General painting, overall cleaning, and repair of damaged areas throughout building are to be completed within the scheduled time. No work is planned to be done to the exterior of the property at this time, also no work is planned that would affect the structural integrity of the building in any way.
