HomeMy WebLinkAboutLincoln Jackson_Opposition to the Bonnybrook pier extensionFrom: Lincoln Jackson <lincoln.jackson@gmail.com> Sent: Monday, April 3, 2023 9:15 AM To: Cavanaugh, Kimberly Subject: Opposion to the Bonnybrook pier extension To the Barnstable Conservation Commission: As someone who has spent more than 50 years sailing, racing, swimming and generally enjoying the waters of Cotuit, I am writing to oppose the proposed Bonnybrook pier extension. It will have a negative impact on the safety and navigability of adjacent waters. The channel between the point of Sampson's Island and Riley's Beach has been one of the most dangerous points of navigation throughout my lifetime. Numerous attempts have been made to make this channel wider. In a matter of a few years, the latest attempt, unfortunately, has been reversed by mother nature. The latest attempt was to try to improve the flushing of the harbors (Cotuit and North Bay). It is sad that in my lifetime, Cotuit beaches have been closed to swimming due to water quality. Our goal should be to widen this dangerous channel, not make it narrower. I have little doubt that extending the Bonnybrook pier would have a negative impact not only on the safety and navigability but also the ecology. I support our harbormaster who also opposes this extension. Respectfully, Lincoln Jackson 58 Lake Street, Cotuit, MA 02635 CAUTION:This email originated from outside of the Town of Barnstable!
