This meeting was held by remote participation via Zoom Meetings
July 19, 2022 at 3:00 PM

Chair Parks called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm
Acting under the provisions of the Code of the Town of Barnstable, ss 112-1 through 112-7, the Historical
Commission held a Public Hearing on the following applications previously determined significant and referred
to Public Hearing:
APPLICATIONS
Mecke, Stephen & Elizabeth, 51 East Avenue, Osterville, Map 139 Parcel 062 -000, Built c.1890
Partial Demolition: Approximately 4’-0” length of wall to be removed on first floor and approximately 3’ section of wall to be
removed at rear dormer.
A motion to continue this application to the August 16, 2022 , meeting at 3:00 PM via Zoom was made by Commissioner Powell and
seconded by Commissioner Kay.
So voted:

Preservation Awards Update – Chair Parks reported that the committee met on July 12, with one nomination received for a project
award for the Cape Cod Times building on Main St. Highlights for this property were described as window replacement and painting
of the building. Two voted to award the Cape Cod Times building and one voted no. Chair Parks reported that two nominations for
service awards were received for Dominic Alessandra and Marina Atsalis. Commissioners decided that serving on a committee was
not sufficient to qualify Ms. Atsalis. Mr. Alessandra was not awarded, as well.
Community Preservation Committee Update – Marilyn Fifield was not present to give an update.

Trayser Artifacts Update – Kate Maldonado reported that staff is in the process of finding a specialist to assist with this effort, and she
hoped to have an update at the next meeting.
Discussion of upcoming historical events open to the public – Nancy Shoemaker announced three events: the July 30th tour of the
Oak Grove Cemetery in Hyannis, the August 8th USCG 36500 tour at Barnstable Harbor, and the August 20th Barnstable Comedy
Club 100th Anniversary.
Meeting status update – Commission can choose either in-person or remote meetings.
A motion was made by Commissioner Shoemaker and seconded by Commissioner Powell to continue with remote meetings so
members can attend more easily.

With no further business before this Commission, a motion was duly made by Commissioner Shoemaker and seconded by
Commissioner Powell to adjourn the meeting.
