HomeMy WebLinkAbout150 Bay Road, Hahn Shellfish Survey 1 TO: Conservation Commission FROM: Natural Resources, Town of Barnstable DATE: April 19, 2023 RE: APPLICATION: Pile supported dinghy dock with ramp, float, and kayak racks APPLICANT: Angela Y. Hahn 835 Old Post Road Cotuit, MA 02635 LOCATION: 150 Bay Road Cotuit, MA 02635 REPRESENTATIVE: Arlene M. Wilson A.M. Wilson Associates, Inc. 20 Rascally Rabbit Road, Unit 3 Marstons Mills, MA 02648 While several shellfish species are native to this area, this particular part of Shoestring Bay is severely compromised and not conducive to the settlement and recruitment of shellfish. It is challenging to even conduct a proper survey at some of these locations in Shoestring Bay. The shoreline currently has a rating of 3 from the 2017 Habitat Assessment Rating Working Group; 2 people rated the area not significant and 5 were unfamiliar with the area. The sample plots contained no shellfish and the sediment is thick, anoxic muck. Due to the poor conditions, Natural Resources has no objections to the proposed project. Sincerely, Elizabeth A. Lewis, Shellfish Biologist Town of Barnstable Marine and Environmental Affairs Department 1189 Phinney’s Lane, Centerville, MA 02632 Derek Lawson, Director 508-790-6273 / Fax 508-790-6275 www.townofbarnstable.us Animal Control 508-790-6274 Natural Resources 508-790-6272 Harbormaster 508-790-6273 Sandy Neck 508-790-6272 Marinas 508-790-6273 Sandy Neck Gatehouse 508 -362-8300 Moorings 508-790-6273
