Dear Ms. Brigham and members of the Zoning Board of Appeals:
I am writing to express my opposition to the application for a special permit for a Wendy’s restaurant at
the old bank location at the intersection of Pine Street and West Main Street in Hyannis.
A fast food restaurant is the last thing that should go in at this very busy location that borders a
residential neighborhood and is across the street from the high school. For safety, aesthetic, traffic and
quality of life reasons, I urge you to deny this application.
It’s a busy and dangerous intersection much of the day and when the high school is getting out in the
afternoon it’s gridlock. Adding more cars there would be irresponsible and make the intersection more
dangerous and aggravating, which benefits no one except Wendy’s. It would make the area more
dangerous particularly for the high school students, staff and visitors and harm the quality of life for the
residents who live in that neighborhood and for everyone who drives along Pine Street and West Main
Street.
Aesthetically it also does not belong. It would be a visual blight and, in addition to traffic, would add
noise and would send the smell of cooking burgers and fries wafting into the adjacent neighborhood all
day and night, odors that most people don’t want at their homes around the clock.
This proposed fast food restaurant is not compatible with the neighborhood or the intersection.
Thank you for your consideration,
Jennifer Lynch
