I am writing to let my strong opposition be known to Arista Hyannis, LLC’s application for a special
permit for a proposed Wendy’s drive through at 715 West Main Street.
I am the owner of property located at nearby Pleasant Park Avenue.
We do not need yet another fast food restaurant, especially one that borders and is intermingled with
a residential area. Do we not have any restrictions as to the number of fast food outlets allowed in
our town overall? Do we not have any restrictions as to the distance between fast food restaurants
and another one of the same, other fast food restaurants or schools? There is already a drive thru
Wendy’s approximately two and half to three miles away.
I travel this area on a daily basis and the proposed site is already an extremely congested area. It is
directly across from Barnstable High School which enrolls approximately 1800 students. There is
often gridlock in that area upon school opening and closing, school sport events and other events
frequently held at the school when not in session such as home shows, theater, symphonies, etc… I
have on many occasions witnessed students almost being hit by vehicles while crossing the street to
get to Dunkin Donuts, even within the crosswalk.
As you know, Wendy’s is a large chain restaurant and they always have a constant and steady flow of
patrons and traffic as well as long drive through lines. This proposal would only serve to benefit
Wendy’s.
