Due to the depth of the pond, the site is inaccessible by barge so piles will be driven utilizing shoreside access. The project was reviewed with respect to potential impacts to marine fisheries resources and habitat. Lake Elizabeth has been identified by MA DMF as diadromous fish passage, migration, and/or spawning habitat for alewife (Alosa pseudoharengus) and American eel (Anguilla rostrata) [1]. MA DMF offers the following comments for your consideration: • The piles to be replaced should be fully removed from the substrate - rather than cut below the water's surface [2]. • Silt containment measures should be installed prior to conducting the work and preferably before the alewife spring migration (April 1st). Questions regarding this review may be directed to Amanda Davis in our New Bedford office at Amanda.davis@mass.gov.
