Hi Kim,

Darcy,
My name is Thomas Drake and I’m a lifelong resident of Centerville. I’ve recently become aware of the basic plan
proposed by Park City Wind to bring its power lines ashore at Craigville Beach. From the scant details provided thus far to
the public, it appears that the plan is to dig trenches through the historic Main Street of Centerville to lay cable up from
Craigville Beach Road to Old Stage Road and then up through Shoot Flying Hill Road to a transmission point in Barnstable.
I’m aghast at this proposal, for it threatens the historic heart of this quaint village, the survival of its iconoclas c small
businesses (The Country Store, David Kelly House, Four Seas), and the wetlands associated with the Craigville River. And
to what end? To allow an interna onal consor um of power companies to sell power to Connec cut? What benefit do
the residents of Centerville derive from this monstrous proposal? Why doesn’t Park City bring their power cables ashore
from where they are located (10 miles south of the Vineyard) to a point closer to CT, and not through the iconic village of
Centerville? Surely there are transmission lines closer to their intended market.
And to add insult to that proposed injury, It appears that Park City would not pay for the en re cost of this proposal, but
only a “substan al por on,” meaning local taxpaying residents would actually have to pay for a por on of the devasta on
to their village center.
I can see no jus fica on for this proposal passing the Conserva on Commission. Any no on that Centerville would be
“improved” in any way by tearing up Main Street and subjec ng its residents to months of detours, mud, dust, noise, and
chaos is absurd on its face.
Please do not allow this to happen. Thank you.
