HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-18-2023 - Charlie Bloom12/18/2024 To: Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Appeals Committee Regarding: Appeal 2023-02 I support this appeal to the Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Appeals Committee.  Not because there is inadequate parking for all these units.  Not because there is no place for children to play, nor is there any open space, unless exposure to the sky counts for open space.  Not because there could have been a three story project at that location which would have been welcomed, especially if it had space set aside on the ground floor, locally serving retail.  And not because some zoning laws make it possible to put forth this project. I support this appeal because a project of this size and this nature has never been done before on Main Street.  A structure may be composed of historically appropriate colors, material, and architectural features, but that does not mean the structure, in its totality, is right for the proposed location.  If we are planning now for housing projects that meet the needs of our community in the future, we must dot every i and cross every t to ensure that the historicity of the Historic District is not violated by developments that will radically alter Main Street.  That is why I urge the Appeals Committee to rule in favor of the appeal put forth by John Julius, Chris Kuhn, and Eric Shwaab.
