Dear members of the Barnstable Conservation Commission,
Please accept this letter as a request for an extension to the permit issued under SE 3-5835. This
permit was issued to complete invasive species management work on a Coastal Bank and within the
buffer zones to the top of the Coastal Bank, including removal of invasive and non-native trees and
other vegetation followed by revegetation with native shrub species. Sparsely vegetated areas around
the existing stairs down the bank were also approved to be covered with biodegradable erosion
control blankets and planted with native grasses and sedges. This permit was issued on 1/20/2021
and is set to expire on 1/20/2024.
Initial restoration work was completed in March 2021, at which time all approved vegetation was
removed. However, restoration plantings and supplemental irrigation were not installed until Fall
2023 as CLM had not been contracted to complete work until that time.
At this time, Crawford Land Management would like to request an extension for a period of 3 years in
order to monitor restoration plantings and perform maintenance activities to ensure their long-term
health and survival. Should an extension be granted, monitoring reports will be completed annually
beginning at the end of the first growing season, as required by the Order of Conditions, now that
restoration plantings have been installed.
