Geocaching
-It is a GPS signal that allows people to enter a
location
and search for a hidden treasure!
You can use a desktop or download a free app,
create a username and
you’re ready to start your adventures!
Get your itinerary ready, look at your map, get there, and start your search!
-The map will allow you to get to a “Geo Zone” and look around to find the
container.
Geo Finale
-When you arrive at the treasure, you must sign
the log using a pen.
-You always put your username on the paper.
-Then you can log in from your device, or when
you get back to a desktop.
-Once you have Clicked “Found” It will give you
the famous Smiley Face!
Different containers can vary from the size of
an eraser cap to walk in with all sizes in between.
Types of Caches
Geocaching On Cape Cod
-Educating people on the spaces we have to
maintain, while giving people the experiences to
continue to preserve and protect our Cape Cod
spaces.
There are many Geo “Celebs” on Cape and the
surrounding areas who are a huge part of our
community.
These Cachers have 10s of Thousands of finds
and love our spaces just as much as we do.
As we continue to get new players, families,
abilities, and from newborn-100 years, We must
keep these spaces protected.
Events
-I have hosted and taught numerous events on
Cape! I love teaching while giving people the
experience of Geocaching.
-The Osterville Library Events and Classes
-Barnstable Land Trust First Day Hikes at the
Main location and Fuller Farm.
-Now with Open Spaces :)
CITO
CITO
-Cache in Trash Out
-This is where Geocachers host an event at a
Location with permission and collect trash.
-This gathers people, all who care about our
local places and the impact we can do to be
good humans while playing a game!
Tips:
-Always go with a buddy (It’s more fun together!)
- Let someone know where you are and when
you plan to be out of the woods if you are on
a longer hike.
-Never “Log” it until you are back at your car.
My Finds and Hides
My children love to look, find, hide and make
their own!
It really has allowed them to recycle, reuse while
still being aware of when we are on and off the
trails too!
