Good afternoon,
I am a resident of Hyannis and sending this letter in OPPOSITION to the redevelopment of the previous Santander Bank
into a Wendys Restaurant with a drive through. A fast food restaurant in this location is not appropriate for a multitude
of reasons.
The main concern is safety in regards to traffic. The intersection is dicey on a good day and the traffic on West Main is
always busy especially during the morning and afternoon with 2 schools getting out. Barnstable High and Hyannis West
Elementary. The intersection is always a free for all and added fast food traffic will only exacerbate the situation. I
believe a previous traffic study showed that West Main could not handle a fast food restaurant.
Another concern is parking…where are patrons expected to park as it is limited now (was Ok for in and out bank patrons)
and if there is a drivethrough, the travel lane will either back up on the property or onto W Main or Pine. It appears that
there are 2 dedicated spots for employees, is that a reasonable amount of spots as it takes more than 2 people to run a
fast food operation? Or are they expecting employees to walk, ride bikes or park elsewhere on other businesses
property or across the street at BHS? And for patrons, is overflow parking expected to be at BHS as well? If yes, is BHS
or the town going to compensated? Will trash be picked up?
Trash pickup on the location is a concern. How will dumpsters be hidden? Picked up and one would think that a large
garbage truck would be hard to maneuver in that location and as the property is close to residential homes, the smell of
a dumpster and noise from pickup would be a nuisance to the neighbors.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. As a parent, lifelong resident of Hyannis I oppose this project- not
Wendys as a business but the location and that 15 West Main Street, Hyannis is not a suitable location for a fast food
restaurant.
