Mayo in Opposition1 Ziino, Genevey Subject:FW: Proposed zoning variance for Wendy's drive-thru From: Virginia Mayo <vcassm630@gmail.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2023 7:58 AM To: Brigham, Anna <Anna.Brigham@town.barnstable.ma.us> Subject: Proposed zoning variance for Wendy's drive-thru Dear Anna, I am writing to express my concern about the proposed Wendy's drive-thru at the former Santander Bank at the corner of Pine Street and Main Street, across the street from Barnstable High School. I live off of Pine Street and am regularly at that intersection although I purposely avoid it at certain times due to the congestion there. I attended the previous Zoning Board of Appeals meeting by zoom and am aware that the application for a Special Permit was tabled while further traffic studies were to be conducted. I can only express my safety and traffic concerns due to anecdotal observations. It is a busy intersection, particularly during the summer months and also when school starts and ends. About a month or so ago, I witnessed an SUV that ended up crashed into a tree on the High School side of the road. I believe the entrance to the drive thru would be from Pine Street at the bend in the road just before the intersection which could cause more back-ups and potentially hazardous. I have grave concerns about the number of students who will cross the street to get access (apart from those driving there after classes). I also recently witnessed a young boy who walked his bike across the road to the High School side and was nearly hit by a car (I was traveling west on Main Street and stopped to take a left onto Pine Street. The boy walked in front of me and another car traveling west passed along side me narrowly avoiding the boy). I appreciate your consideration of my concerns.
