Subject:Proposed Wendy's Restaurant
Dear Ms Brigham,
SInce I retired I now spend a significant amount of my time living on Long Pond in
Centerville. I
have become aware thru the Association For The Preservation of Long Pond that a
Wendy's
fast-food store is proposed to be built on the former Santander Bank location across
the street
from Barnstable High School.
I want to formally express my non-support for an establishment of this type to be
built on this
location.
I daily use this intersection to go to Star Market, Hyannis, Cape Cod Mall, etc.,
and building a fast-food
joint on this location will cause major traffic congestion and probably lead to an
increase in traffic
accidents.
I understand that Wendy's is applying for a Special Permit for a fast food lane.
This most certainly will
cause traffic back up onto the main roads during peak times. This will add
significantly to the congestion
already associated with the nearby intersection. West Main Street is heavily
trafficked and High School
traffic ramps up this congestion. A Wendy's store will exacerbate the traffic
congestion.
Placing a fast food store across from a school, especially a High School, where
students have the means
to purchase food is a big mistake. Students will cross W. Main in droves to get the
junk food that
Wendy's serves up to the general public. Their general safety is at risk. The safety
factor is just not there
to keep students from getting hit and injured by cars.
I hope that Barnstable Officials will reconsider giving in to Wendy's desires.
Their corporate goals
certainly do not fit into Barnstable / Centerville's goals and community standards
for safety.
