Hello Anna,
I am sure you will have many emails to consider, as not everyone will be able to attend the
meeting this Weds. July 26th.
Please take into account the many voices you will hear, attesting to the validity of having a
Wendy's on the corner of West Main and Pine St.
I live on the corner of Pine and Strawberry Hill, have for 30+ years. I advocate for my
community neighborhood in strongly rejecting the approval of a Wendy's where the Santander
bank was. Every sane reason presented by the opposers needs to be clearly heard.
Barnstable High School, brings enough traffic and congestion to the intersection and main
road. The buses, the student drivers and the walkers all contend with the morning and
afternoon arrivals and departures....add to that the regular flow of traffic at both of those hours,
makes a fast food chain restaurant anything but a good choice! Money can NOT be the only
reason for doing things. The property has been abandoned and looks horrible for the summer
months, why hasn't anyone cared about THAT?!?!?
I am positive that Wendy's corporation has dollar signs in their eyes, as does whoever will rent
that property to them, knowing they will be powerful tenants, making money hand over hand
from the very generous population at BHS, and the few people in the area that would actually
think Wendy's on the already bulging corner, is a good idea!!!!!
How about we not think of it as a money machine, and turn away a franchise that can certainly
afford to look for another location. How about we clean up the property, and find a business
such as it has always been? Let's think about the community at large, consider the headaches
we already face if by chance you travel that section of town/road, at the unfortunate hour of
school commencing or closing for the day! That is NOT the only factor in my decision.
I do not want to live with the aroma of a fast food chain wafting through my neighborhood, I can
walk to Santander in less then 5 minutes, so I am sure whatever air handler and filters that may
be meant to conceal the smells of the business, will surely not be adequate.
The powers that be and the powers that will be making this very important decision should take
up a few lawn chairs and soak in the sights and smells and traffic of the area, and the tell
yourselves that a Wendy's is a good idea??? Hopefully everyone including Wendy's will be a
winner in this meeting! Just not winning in this neighborhood!
I respectfully submit this opinion for my family, friends and neighborhood!
