I have lived in this area for almost 20 years and regularly walk around the high school and beyond to Pine Street, Old Craigville Beach Road, Strawberry Hill Road, and West Main Street. Over the past twenty years, I have seen many close calls and accidents in that area especially during the mes of heavy traffic (school hours, football games, concerts, ceremonies, etc.). That intersecon is dangerous enough and to add a drive thru would just cause a traffic jam as well as many le turns gone bad. There is not enough space on that corner to adequately line up cars. In addion, we saw a huge increase of traffic in the area when Dunkin Donuts came in. As a result, the crosswalk is unsafe for our high school students. It has taken up to 6 minutes for cars to stop to let someone cross. There is not enough police presence to keep the area safe. Many mes those in a rush from Dunkin Donuts fly out without even pausing for a crossing patron. Another reason to oppose the Wendy’s in the old Santander Bank building is the increase of trash in the area. At this me, the Barnstable School Department can not keep up with the liering on their property and surrounding areas. We have seen a rise of lier around the perimeter of the high school and many of those bags are Dunkin Donuts bags/wrappers. The increase of trash that would accompany the new Wendys would ruin our area including the small wildlife le around the surrounding wetlands. Please reach out if you would like to discuss any of these reasons further. Thank you, Kelly
