Subject: Opposition to Wendy's on West Main
Dear Ms. Brigham:
I understand that there is a hearing tonight regarding the potential Wendy's on West Main Street. I
cannot attend, but I want my opinion on the record, so I am sending you this email.
I have resided off of Pine Street in Centerville, MA for many years. I have seen the traffic build on
West Main Street as well as Pine Street over the many years I have resided here. You'd have to be
blind not to see it. No longer does the Cape "sleep" in the winter. Our roads are just as busy now as
when the tourists come to visit.
A Wendy's location in the old Santander Bank building is not acceptable. I used to go to the Dunkin
Donuts across from the high school and now, will not go Monday through Friday after 2:00 p.m.,
because the kids from the high school take over the establishment. They are loud, push and shove
each other (not to mention the fights that break out), are obnoxious and don't know to pick up after
themselves. They could care less about the adults trying to make a purchase and be on their way. I
know many patrons that will not go there when the kids are let out of school. All along West Main
Street, when school is let out, there are kids roaming the sidewalks. They go to Star Market,
Walgreen's, and the gas station. I see them all over that stretch of road. Having another "hang out"
is just ridiculous. Never mind the traffic pattern and the drive through coming off onto Pine Street.
I am opposed to the Wendy's on West Main Street and anybody in that area should be. There are
condominiums behind the old bank as well as residential neighborhoods across the street. The smell
of the cooking vents will infiltrate that whole area, as well as their trash containers which will bring the
seagulls and rodents. It's too close to residences and there is no room to navigate hiding the
refrigerators and waste site. I see what happens at the Hyannis Wendy's and it will happen at this
site also. The seagulls get into the trash cans and dump the trash all over the place, scavenging for
food.
In conclusion, Wendy's advertises being open until after midnight. Why should those residential
people have to deal with traffic at that time of night? I've seen the other Wendy's in Hyannis at
midnight. The inside restaurant is closed and only the drive thru is open. You have people meeting
after going to the bars. Cars zooming in an out of the parking lot, never mind the noise of people
yelling and screaming. Sorry, that's not for a neighborhood area. There's the Bank of America
building down the street which would be perfect since it abuts woods with no close residential
neighborhoods, and it also has a drive thru.
I say NO to Wendy's on West Main Street!
