Subject: Mystic Lake aluminum treatment
AƩached is an NOI for a second treatment of MysƟc Lake with aluminum products to reduce phosphorus availability.
This lake was treated in 2010 with substanƟal success, although the dose was restricted to lower than what was
recommended at that Ɵme and the effects are wearing off. MysƟc Lake supports a river herring run through Middle
Pond and the 2010 treatment was conducted in September as requested by your office. The current publicaƟon on Time
of Year restricƟons is broad and requires some interpretaƟon based on what species use the lake and the normal
paƩern of immigraƟon and emigraƟon. Your input is needed to finalize any treatment plan that might be approved by
the Barnstable ConservaƟon Commission. This NOI is also being sent to NHESP, as there are several listed invertebrate
species in the lake, but we are hereby seeking DMF input for this project. The intended hearing date for this project with
the Barnstable ConservaƟon Commission is March 5, 2024.
