Hello Councilor Clark,
Thank you for your email. The main Barnstable trails were cut back starting from the Barnstable
entrance on Santuit Newtown Road. There was no trail maintenance done on the Mashpee side by
Americorps. I did not have Americorps do any vista pruning on vegetation that directly abut wetland
resources nor the trail leading to the fish ladder due to their safety (as the stairs are washed out
and not stable), the location of indigenous land, and the wetland resource. Any vista pruning within
a wetland resource typically requires a conservation approval. Furthermore, while walking with
Americorps, it looks like a group had recently cut back the majority of the trails. I do not know who
conducted the cutting.
Please, let me know if there is more information that I can provide for you; I would be happy to do
such.
Thank you,
Grayce Rogers

Hi Grayce,
I received your helpful update via Chair Ann Canedy:

Hello Genna,
This is an update for the Open Space Committee.
1. On Monday, March 4th from 8:30am – 1pm, seven Americorps
members served the community by clearing the existing trails off
fallen tree limbs, brush, and cut back brush overgrowth. The trails
were maintained to their existing width. No new trails were created
nor were any trails closed. This is annual trail maintenance that we
exercise to ensure people can comfortably and safely pass through
the trails.
Would you please let the committee chair (and therefore the others) know which area that
Amercorps did the trail work? It'd be helpful to know going forward.
Appreciatively, Kris
