RE: 473 Main Street, Hyannis – Hyannis Inn Motel project
April 15,2024
Madam Chair,
Although I am a member of the Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission, due to a
personal medical situation I have not been able to attend the meetings regarding 473 Main Street,
Hyannis Inn Motel project, and since there is already one member taking advantage of the video
attendance process; I am unable to vote on this item.
However, I would like to provide you and the commission with my feedback on this project where the
applicant is looking for demolition and renovations of the property.
I have seen the proposal, and plans, and am opposed to all aspects of the project as presented. To
demolish buildings which have unique characteristics, and has been there for over 70 years, to replace it
with oversized structures, looming over Main Street does not protect the historic characteristics of
Hyannis Main Street.
The Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission was created to address revitalization
and historic preservation in downtown Hyannis; And promote the preservation of the unique historic
character of downtown Hyannis. The Commission strives to create a desirable place to live, work, and
enjoy through the preservation, maintenance, and improvement of historic vernacular. This property
and buildings embody the unique and historic character of Hyannis, and the commission’s charge, and
we need to preserve it as much as we can.
I urge the commission not to approve the demolition or structures as presented.
Sincerely,
Laura Cronin
