Hello Genna,
Here is the update for Open Space:
1.) The Town is still working on implementing the Geocache guidelines. They are at a final stage in the process.
However, if we do not have the guidelines oƯicially adopted by May 13th. Conservation has been using the
following guidelines:
1.) Ask Conservation for approval
2.) Send them the coordinates of the hiding location
3.) Do not hide geocaches within a wetland resource
The geocache guidelines that we are seeking to implement are very similar, just more detailed about where and
where not to place geocaches.
2.) The Town and Barnstable Land Trust are currently working together on submitting a join application to
AmeriCorps to be awarded a member to work with the Town 1 day a week and to work with Barnstable
Land Trust two days a week. Barnstable Land Trust is working with Barnstable to update the Cape Cod
Pathways blazing, signage, and maps. We have also partnered to work on outing together a volunteer land
steward program. This program would educate the public through workshops about land steward
practices, put on community trail maintenance days, and community clean up days. Volunteer Land
Steward programs are often used by municipalities to better engage with their communities, educate the
public about public land use and land steward practices, and working with the community to preserve the
land for years to come.
I hope all is well!
Thank you,
Grayce

Subject: Open Space Update
Hello Genna,
This is an update for the Open Space Committee.
1.) On Monday, March 4th from 8:30am – 1pm, seven Americorps members served the community by clearing
the existing trails oƯ fallen tree limbs, brush, and cut back brush overgrowth. The trails were maintained to
their existing width. No new trails were created nor were any trails closed. This is annual trail maintenance
that we exercise to ensure people can comfortably and safely pass through the trails.
2.) Town StaƯ is currently working on formalizing a Geocaching policy which is a common formality that public
entities implement to ensure geocaching does not disturb the environment nor town assets. Our goal is to
formalize this policy before the May walking date.
Please, do not hesitate to reach out with any questions; I am happy to help!
Thank you,
