To all persons deemed interested or affected by the Town of Barnstable’s Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission Ordinance under Chapter 112, Article III of the Code of the Town of Barnstable, you are hereby notified that a hearing is being held at Town Hall, 367 Main Street, Hyannis, MA Selectmen’s Conference Room, 2nd Floor 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He gives an explanation of the proposed new sign, size 2 ft. x 6 ft. blue, white and black colors. Jack Kay asks if Iris photo logo is part of same sign? Tom Doherty asks if any lighting? 2 Behram Haliti, no lighting – yes, Iris is part of the new sign. Jack Kay, goosenecks on the sign in the picture. Behram Haliti, they are not over the sign to light it. Jeniffer Hinckley Needham, guidelines where sign can only have a certain size per the size of façade. Jim Kupfer, yes, placement and centering is in the guidelines. Location? Will it be standing on top or bracketed? Behram Haliti, bracketed, no visible brackets. Will try to make in the center. Laura Cronin, materials, metal or aluminum-this is not in guidelines right now? Jim Kupfer clarifies, not in guidelines right now. Aluminum or metal may be appropriate per the Commission. Laura Cronin, a lot of one dimensional signs in the area – maybe make it less flat? Maybe use other materials? Jack Kay clarifies it won’t show any aluminum. Behram Haliti, yes, don’t have a sign yet. Used to be next to Smith Family Popcorn, now we have moved to this store. Chair Cheryl Powell opens up public comment. Applicant here now, this is done as second application. 3 Thiago Torres in attendance. He was at the last meeting. Going to be flat sign, projected from wall no lighting 43” x 24 “. Kevin Matthews, thanks the applicant for re working this. Much better sign now. Tom Doherty clarifies no halo lighting. Chair Cheryl Powell opens up public comment. Jack Kay, looks like a bracket, clarifies sticking out from wall and double sided as well? Thiago Torres, yes – two sided with vinyl on top of the aluminum. Jim Kupfer asks about thickness. Thiago Torres, about an inch. It will be a new bracket. Confirms same location as now. Jack Kay, will wind blow it over? Thiago Torres, it is not hollow aluminum, there is weight inside of it. Maria Adclia Da Costa in attendance. He explains the proposed signage, 10” x 20” and one inch thickness, PVC sign with acrylic letters and open sign inside and flag – open. Laura Cronin, open/close sign what kind of sign is this? Neon? Is it actual neon solid lit sign? Izaias DeOliveira, 12 inch neon sign – solid lit. Laura Cronin clarifies flag type and where will it be placed. Izaias DeOliveira, flag to be placed on left side of the building, corner of the wall. 4 Tom Doherty, plastic material? Jim Kupfer, more of the acrylic lettering that is recommended through the guidelines if directly mounted. Izaias DeOliveira clarifies individual letters mounted and are acrylic. Jeniffer Hinckley Needham clarifies the façade space and the size of the sign. Jim Kupfer, film in window itself – for amount of space covering the window, the Commission may find it appropriate. Ordinance review of what signage is appropriate. Jack Kay Brazil sign and the decal, clarifies this will be part of the complete sign. Izaias DeOliveira, yes this is the logo. Laura Cronin, PVC letters on acrylic base. Clarifies this is how will be. Izaias DeOliveira, yes. Kevin Matthews, lighting? Izaias DeOliveira, no lighting for the sign. There are lights on the building though, pre existing. Chair Cheryl Powell opens up public comment. Jim Kupfer maybe add graphics for window when do the motion. Jeniffer Hinckley Needham clarifies the small picture next to sign. Izaias DeOliveira, it’s a map of Brazil Chair Cheryl Powell takes a 3 minute recess. Jack Kay clarifies clear acrylic background – will it glare? Plastic doesn’t need to be clear. Izaias DeOliveira, white plastic. Kevin Matthews, thinks white will be better. They want to reface with new brand/logo. Navy blue background with same posts and location. Laura Cronin, a carved sign there now? The existing, like to see it like the one that is there now. New one looks like a flat PVC. Like to see the same type of materials as existing. Tom Doherty, agrees with that as well. Jack Kay, if carved sign will be recessed or protrude? Laura Cronin, whatever works best with a carved sign. Jack Kay, specific tool has to be used. A lot of work to do sharp corners and wooden letters mounted to the sign would give the impression of. Matt Clark asks what would be the increase in pricing? Percentage? Mike Caggio, yes, it’s more costly. Carving and primer and hand letters. The applicant is trying to re brand It’s clean concise design, costs less than carving. Probably another 60% and more labor intense. Kevin Matthews, good that still have the 3d effects with the new sign. Likes the white border. Discussion regarding if put rope around the border. Laura Cronin, can you work with the client to make more dimensional? Mike Caggio, it is 3 dimensional, we are raising the letters ¾ of an inch. Kevin Matthew lights? Jack Kay nominates Cheryl Powell for Chair. He states that he cannot be here enough for coverage for his position as Vice Chair because he is out on the West Coast. He discussed with Tom Doherty and would nominate Tom Doherty for Vice Chair. He is willing to do the Clerk position. Tom Doherty nominates Jack Kay for Clerk. Jim Kupfer clarifies that can only do nominations at this time. .Annual election shall occur in July of each year. We don’t meet on Juneteenth (June 19th). The Commission can vote on the July Agenda. Quotes - from its principal members – these members can vote on officers and be nominated Nomination tonight and vote in July. The alternate position, Kevin Matthews is alternate so cannot be nominated. Elections to be held at the meeting in July. Chair Cheryl Powell explains the voting process.
