Overview:
We were awarded a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts to create a series of
public artworks that honor our past and make space for our present and future. We are
proposing an installation of the mural below for the side of 436-438 Main Street. The
design for this mural was created by local artist Desiree Filkins with input from community
members from the area, and references the natural landscape as well as a quilt made by
Eugenia Fortes that is in the Zion Union Heritage Museum collection.
Materials:
The mural will be painted on a fabric called parachute cloth and installed after the painting is
complete. This is industry best practice for installing murals without damaging bricks, and is
removable though we are not looking at this as a temporary project.
A majority of the mural colors were selected from the Benjamin Moore Historic Color palette.
Would you be amenable to further discussion about this idea?
With thanks,
Anastaci Pacella and Desiree Filkins
