Hi Darcy- the use of a wire brush equipped with a vacuum is standard procedure for this type of
recoa ng work on bulkheads as a best-prac ce to ensure that debris from the coa ng removal is
collected before it is able to enter the waterway. The project will go out to public bid and the lowest
qualified bidder will likely be awarded the contract, so we are not sure who the contractor will be at
this point. However, we are planning to include the vacuum equipped wire brush equipment as a
project requirement in the bid documents and the contractor will be required to submit informa on
about the specific brush/vacuum system they are using prior to construc on. We could provide the
equipment submi al to Conserva on for review prior to approval. If determined to be necessary to
the project by the Commission, we could add a debris boom be in place during the work as a
requirement for the project.

HI Jeramy,
Addi onal ques on for you. Can the vacuum collect all the coa ng being scraped off. I know the
narra ve under 6.2 states no debris will enter the waterway, but who is the contractor whom will
confirm this?

Hi Jeramy,
We are looking for the Shellfish survey to go along with the NOI applica on. If you look at Chapter
703-2 defini on of Dock and Pier it includes bulkheads which in turn includes required shellfish
survey. Can you shed some light?
Thank you
