Darcy Karle Conservaon Administrator From: Cotuit-Santuit Civic Associaon <csca@cotuitcivicassociaon.org> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2024 2:50 PM To: Karle, Darcy <Darcy.Karle@town.barnstable.ma.us> Subject: Fwd: Ropes Beach vegetaon Town of Barnstable Conservation Commission, The Cotuit-Santuit Civic Association is unable to attend the Tuesday, August 20th Conservation Committee Hearing as it falls on the same day and time of the Civic Association annual meeting. Please accept this short note as our public comment and read it into the minutes. We are very much in support of this project. Ropes Beach at 85 Old Shore Road, is a very busy beach in Cotuit for all beach and water activities. The reduction in the size of open beach area has been greatly reduced by the vegetation. The last time the vegetation was removed was in 2000, according to our records, so it has been 24 years. The Cotuit-Santuit Civic Association requested the clean up of Ropes beach vegetation at an onsite meeting with DPW and Darcy Karle, on August 4, 2023. At that meeting Joe Marshal agreed to file the determination of applicability, but then Joe Marshal left the DPW and the project was handed over to PJ. Kelliher. Due to a change of staff we understand there was a delay that could not be avoided but we are very pleased to see this meeting taking place now. We hope you will grant the DPW permission to clear back the vegetation to open up the beach, again. Thank you, Carol Zais, President Cotuit-Santuit Civic Association
