Vote: Aye: Ann Canedy, Farley Lewis, Liz Lewis, Elissa Crowley, Cate Gulliver, Lev Malakhoff Nay: None TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION New Business • Formation of Open Space Committee Walks Lev Malakhoff explains that he’d like to start monthly walks for the committee as a chance to view open spaces together to become better stewards. Genna Ziino relays that the Town Attorney requested alternating members to stay below quorum. Lev Malakhoff asks members to email him any places of interest they’d like to visit, and he can schedule the walks by email. • Fall Walking Weekend – October 11-14 Farley Lewis reads the walks she’s collected so far. Genna Ziino will be printing flyers and brochures, will add a note on the website, and it will be included in the town’s weekly newsletter. The group discusses possible ideas for further publicity: the fire station bulletin board, community bulletin boards, a press release to local news outlets, Village Association Facebook pages, Cape Cod Times Best Bets, and radio. Member Present Absent Ann Canedy – Chair X Farley Lewis – Vice Chair X Elizabeth Lewis X Douglas Payson X Elissa Crowley X Anne Rowland X Tracy Pratt X Cate Gulliver X Lev Malakhoff X • Nomination of New Committee Chair Chair Canedy announces that she is stepping down as Chair and is stepping off the Committee. She hopes to see the Committee continue on, and suggests that the group think about nominations for next month’s meeting. She believes Lev Malakhoff would be a good new leader. Old Business • Update on Centerville Cranberry Bog No update • Update on Cummaquid Woods Marie Rizzo provides an update that Save Cummaquid Woods is now officially a nonprofit corporation: Save Cummaquid Woods Inc. This will allow them to fundraise donations less than $250. They’ve partnered with the Compact, who will be able to do tax breaks for larger donations. She also updates that both parcels have been appraised but the info is not public yet. Farley Lewis hasn’t received the next CPC agenda yet so doesn’t know if this topic will be on it. The water district is meeting this week. • Update on outstanding Conservation Restrictions No updates. • Update – Pathways update including walking library, NEMBA path project, and Geocaching Chair Canedy says Grayce Rogers will present at a meeting in October or November. She asks the Committee to review the geocaching policy draft and send feedback to Ms. Rogers directly and copy Farley Lewis and Lev Malakhoff. Lev Malakhoff’s main comment was to have a single point of contact who can then distribute requests to the appropriate staff. Lev Malakhoff wants to know how GIS’s mapping is going, because what’s published now has inadequate or incorrect parts. Chair Canedy will reach out to Alicia Messier and Grayce Rogers for an update before she officially resigns. Lev Malakhoff says he reached out to geocaching people about a walk event for Walking Weekend. He will follow up. • Report from Tracy Pratt regarding Santuit Preserve Chair Canedy says Tracy Pratt will be attending a walk hosted by the Santuit Management Committee tomorrow, so should have a report at next month’s meeting. • Update on Open Space Plan No update. • Report from Farley Lewis regarding Community Preservation Committee Open Space applications Farley Lewis provides an update: a letter of intent came in from Orenda Wildlife Land Trust seeking $100,000 of CPC open space funds for the acquisition of a 5.5-acre property on Smiths Creek, a tributary of Barnstable Great Marsh. It will be moving on to the application stage. Chair Canedy anticipates a CR from Orenda for Smiths Creek. The town will co-hold the CR with the Cape Cod Compact. Farley Lewis says the CPC also received a letter from Chair Canedy about the pathway’s main trail in Cummaquid. Also, the Wheeler Holly Preserve trail easement was postponed to Town Council’s August 15 meeting. They discuss whether Wheeler was closed already. Lev Malakhoff asks for an update about the letters that were sent about pathways. Chair Canedy thinks Lindsey Counsell is working on it—she will check back on that. Regarding the letter about the YMCA crosswalk, Mark Ells has forwarded it to DPW. • Report from Town Council Liaison Kris Clark No update.
