HomeMy WebLinkAboutUpdated 10'2-2024 Mural Design Slides for Historic Commission"Seeds of Transformation" is a vibrant mural inspired by the voices of
the Cape Cod community, woven together through a visual patchwork of
shared heritage and resilience.
The design came from a
public listening session in
which themes of unity,
growth, hope, and a love
of Cape Cod’s natural
landscape emerged.
Connections to Hyannis History
●Feathers and quahog shells honor
the history of the Wampanoag
people and Indigenous heritage
●Hands and quilt elements represent
Eugenia Fortes, civil rights activist
who was known for knitting during
Town Council Meetings. Her quilt is
held in the JFK Collection
●Butterfly and ladybug imagery
symbolize transformation and hope,
reflecting the Cape’s ability to evolve
and shape lives

Materials and Additional Considerations
-Safe for Bricks: Painted on polytab. Safer for the bricks and prevents peeling
over time
-Temporary and Reversible: The brick is currently painted red, and the mural
could be painted over to return the brick to its current state
-Historic Significance: The building is not considered historically significant
and the wall in question does not have historic materials or architectural
features
-Not a Sign: It has been confirmed that this mural does not constitute a sign
because it does not include a product name, service, logo or other
representation of a commercial enterprise
