HomeMy WebLinkAboutL Coggeshall Letter of OppositionHello, Erica— I reside full-time at 49 Rendezvous Lane, and have done so since I returned home in 2003. I am a Trustee of the Sturgis Library, volunteer gardener at the Historic Association, have taught English for 8 years at CCCC, and tended 30 local properties in my organic gardening business. One of those gardens belonged to Sheila Bearse, a year-round resident across the lane, and it was a sad day when the house and garden were destroyed to make way for the Livingstons’ mega-manse which they do NOT inhabit, as they reside in Marblehead, as well as in a number other properties around the US. We see them here approximately one week per year. When they purchased the Millers’ house, they said it would be a) for their (at college in New Orleans) daughter b) for elderly relatives who also needed an in-ground pool as the shore is too difficult to navigate in and out of the water. When we asked the people staying there this summer if they were related, they said no, the house is advertised on Air B&B. One can only conclude this new proposed building will be another cash cow—one of too many to keep our historic village vibrant. My family has lived in a number of houses on Rendezvous Lane for over 100 years, and before Russ & Tina Miller bought the house, we knew it as ZaSu Pitts’, a famous early Hollywood film star, who wanted a replica of her Venice Beach home here on the Cape. It is structurally sound, actually fits its little plot, and has a pretty fun history, just like other smaller houses not yet destroyed around town. Please add this letter to your collection. A thousand thanks, Lindy Coggeshall
