basementthat Crowderhas made
into three bathroom-equipped
garages.
In a once-postponedandonce-
continuedhearingon Crowder's
PotterStreetrequestfora lodging
houselicensefromselectmen,one
residentchargedthatCrowder'sin-
tentionfromthestartwasto make
it intoan "apartmenthouse."

the land to Nickulas,wrotethe
planningboardthatshelookedfor

the neighborhood"and construct

anotherdeveloper.
Ironically,thispittedher against
EstherMurray,wholivesnearby,is
a townmeetingrep and hasbeen
calledby somethe "mayorof
MarstonsMills,"a titleoftengiven
to the late BillKnowlton,Mrs.

topeoplewhoneedit,DaLuzsaid.
He and peoplelikehim provide
housing,so thosewhoneedit at
leasthavea shelterovertheirheads
-"that'swhatthey'retryingtodo."
The qualityis differentthan
what'susuallybeenassociatedwith
affordablehousing,DaLuzsaid-
theytryto providebetterandlarger
quarters."That'sthetrend of
everythingtoday,"he said.
Thetown'schiefbuildinginspec-
tor alsosaidthat ownersdo not
haveto liveon the premises.The
town'slodginghousetaskforce"is
workingon that veryissue."he
said.

couldrentwithoutprotectionfrom
fire,withoutsmokedetectors,for
instance,he said.Thetaskforceis
tellingthe individualsthetownwill
workwiththembut theyhaveto
followsafetyandotherprecautions.
"Thetownrecognizesit needs
them,"he said."Ifthey(the
landlords)recognizethatthetown
willworkwiththem,theywillcome
forwardandtherewillbe coopera-
tion."
