RE:Conservation Commission
Darcy,
I cannot attend in person or by zoom tonight,so i am hoping the coast guard's request for a continuance
is allowed.
In over 4 decades I am fairly certain there has never been a year without multiple collisions at Colliers
Ledge. The most recent incident was this past Friday midafternoon.
I understand the fisherman's concerns but I think a great compromise would be to not dig it out entirely,
but to dig it out low enough where most boats can pass over it safely and a deeper fishing reef would
remain. The USCG seems amenable to this.I would recommend a minimum of 8 feet at low low water If
that is possible with the surrounding depths.
This will leave a bed of rocks for the aquatic life and the rocks that are dug out could be placed in a
deeper spot close by to create an additional fishing reef.
I will continue to speak to the coast guard to discuss possible locations for a new reef which would
actually create a net gain.
Respectfully,
