Subject: Collier Ledge Isolated Danger VAIS and Southwest Rock Day Beacon NOI Data Informa on
Request - USCG
Good morning,
This email is a follow up from our conversa on today October 24, 2024.
Per your request a ached is the Chart, Le er from Cape Cod Fishermen Alliance, Images of some
Colliers Ledge incidents and data (2020-2024) pertaining to Colliers’s incidents we were involved in. I
also a ached a press release we sent out regarding a call just this past summer.
Since 2020; we have logged in our interoffice data base eight (8) emergency calls for service at Colliers
Ledge. 90% of those calls were confirmed vessels striking colliers ledge. If I was to look back in
records, I would easily find a vessel strikes probably occurring once a year from the year 2020 back.
When doing a quick search, I iden fied a call and incident in 2017, 2015, 2019.
The Barnstable Harbormaster strongly supports the removal of these hazards to naviga on. As you
can see, this number of calls indicates that these rock structures are in fact a public safety issue.
The No ces of Intent (August 2024) filed was supported by the Town of Barnstable’s Waterways
Commi ee.
Thanks,
Brian W. Taylor
