I'm a little late in getting this email sent to you, however I felt it important to voice my feelings about the Coast Guard's plan to dismantle Collier Ledge. As I am sure many of you know, Collier Ledge is home to a variety of popular fish such as tautog and other species. I have also heard there could be eelgrass there, and that the rocks provide year round shelter for juvenile fish. It is also a popular recreational fishing spot that local families have been fishing for generations. I would imagine that many of these families and anglers would feel motivated to write emails questioning and objecting to the Coast Guard's plan. However I doubt they have even heard about this proposal. I only heard about the Coast Guard's plan by chance. I would imagine that if local angling groups such as the Cape Cod Salties and the Osterville Angler's Club found out about the plan, then you would receive quite an influx of emails in objection. I also wonder if local bait shops such as the Sports Port in Hyannis is even aware of this plan. I would like to see the Cape Cod Times, the Barnstable Patriot, and other outlets publish news about this plan because I feel nobody has even heard about this. I would recommend not moving forward with the plan to dismantle Collier's. I feel it's value as a habitat and a recreational fishing hot spot, outweighs its danger as a hazard to navigation.
